Our Stories

We never thought our lives could be so changed.  Never having gone to church much, my fiance’ and I thought we’d search around for a pastor and church so we could get married.  We received an invite card in the mail and thought we’d go ahead and check out this newly forming church in the area.  The atmosphere was casual, the message and multi-media were practical and the people were authentic – but most of all, we learned of a God who was real.

Since that day our lives have continued a Journey that has become our core for existence and purpose.  It’s amazing how patient they were with us and how much unconditional love we were shown as we began to understand how many of the choices we were making were not in God’s best plan.  We love serving at NorthPointe and pray that anyone who wants to discover a personal relationship with God and a loving caring church family can find what we’ve found!

Not too long ago I was a young, somewhat angry man … rather proud to be an atheist.  My amazing wife was patient with me, and finally got me to visit a church nearby called NorthPointe.  I was prepped and ready … to criticize and tear apart anything I could!  But I was caught off guard.  It wasn’t a stuffy irrelevant place, filled with hypocrites.  We found an authentic, caring community – and had to return.

Over time, God broke down those walls in my life and now that I’ve entered a relationship with Him, it’s INCREDIBLE the difference.  Wow – I’m even currently studying to enter youth ministry (if you’re a teen, come join us some time at a NorthPonte “re3:generation” youth ministry event!).  We cannot say enough about how glad we are that we’ve found the NorthPointe family and a true journey in faith.

I was a struggling single – and not too un-typically, broke!  My mom was attending a new church that was seeming to touch her life in all kinds of positive ways.  One day, a basket of food ended up on my porch.  No strings attached – just a statement of love.  I found myself having to check this place out.

Little did I know how my life would be eternally changed!  Since that time, not only have my sister and I begun a personal relationship with Christ … but, it’s there I met my husband who’s authentic faith has blessed my life.  I don’t know where we’d be without the love of God in our marriage and the amazing community we find in our church family.

We hadn’t been going to church, except perhaps at Christmas.  We felt it wasn’t for us – we were good, committed, honest, loving people and didn’t “need” church.  When our son was almost 2 years old, we realized we wanted him to experience Christianity as a consistent and grounding experience.  We set out to “try out” various churches and I stumbled upon Northpointe first.  I didn’t know at first that it was our church home – I just knew that I enjoyed the message and thought about it often during the week.  I was excited to go back and try it again.  The second time was just as moving, and the third week, I brought Donnie and our son.  He was equally moved by the experience and I don’t think we missed a weekend of worship at Northpointe after that.

Pastor Dan and Northpointe changed our lives.  I liken the experience to the Wizard of Oz – moving from a black and white life to one of living and brilliant color.  We realized we were living a fine life previous to Northpointe, but not one of God – committed to loving Christ first and helping others.  Pastor Dan led us on this journey and he is an amazing and inspiring servant of God.  We’ve subsequently moved and were forced to choose a new church, but will always consider Northpointe to have provided our Christian inspiration and base.

As a more “seasoned adult” and single … it’s sometimes hard to find a church home.  I can’t say enough how blessed I feel to have found NorthPointe!  Not only have the ministries and relationships blessed me, but the journey there has truly stretched me beyond my comfort zones, and I just love it!  I truly feel the love of God here and want with all my heart to display it as well.

Life was going just splendidly for us … then in one day it all changed.  Our two-year old son, and our shared lives were devastated by a rare brain & spinal tumor.  We had a neighbor who attended NorthPointe and who told their church family of our predicament.  We were soon visited at Children’s Hospital and through that bridge our lives have never been the same since.

We praise God Ryan is still with us and in many ways thriving, though the road has certainly been tough.  We cannot say enough how much coming to personal faith in Christ through the ministries at NorthPointe has made all the difference!  We are so grateful for our church home.

We had moved from the western US and didn’t know a soul.  Then we got this little piece of mail inquiring if we wanted to begin a journey helping to form a new church in the North Columbus Metro area.  We’re so glad we said, “yes!”  The experiences we’ve known among this family have been irreplaceable in our lives.  We’re especially grateful for how the NorthPointe Family has hung in there with us during extended illness.  We cannot imagine life without the shared journey of an authentic community of faith!

We truly love NP church.  It is really cool, and we like many aspects about it.  Our daughter enjoyed youth group meeting this week.  I can't describe all of things I think are neat about the church – but God must be in it.  I thoroughly enjoy the talks (so does our daughter - I never thought an 11 year old would ever enjoy adult oriented teaching).  I really like the frank, honest, simple, non-hype, down to earth, understandable, not pie-in-the-sky teaching on the Christian life and Bible - mixed with multi-media.  You made us feel so, so welcome… this Christ-like love in community is so important!

I had little to no church attendance after age 12.  Like many adults I began setting up “idols” in my life:  mostly in terms of my husband, and family.  Well, God has a way of getting your attention and in 1997 he got mine when my husband & I separated. I was devastated; broken. But at the right moment & time I received a little post card that would change my life. God had a plan!

An invitation to a new church starting up in Lewis Center came to my home.  On a dark snowy Saturday winter evening I attended a service with this new church family called NorthPointe Community. I had come home and my life has never been the same!  Christ found me in the pit of despair, picked me up and cleaned me off for the new life he had in store.  And not just me -- both my daughters, my mom & step-dad, my sis ... and now my new husband all have come to faith or been blessed by the ministries here at NorthPointe.  I can't tell you what a joy it is to serve here!
